Geography

There are ten provinces and three territories (the northern regions) in Canada. In our study we be focused on six main areas:

1. The Maritimes (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island) and Newfoundland & Labrador.

2. Quebec.

3. Ontario.

4. The Prairies (Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba).

5. British Columbia.

6. The Territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut).

    I wonder why Nunavut is called Nunavut. — Emma.

    Perhaps it’s a word in the Inuit language? — Mihal

    That’s a good question Emma! I did some research and it turns out that Nunavut means “our land” in the Inuktitut language. I found this out on the Nunavut Government’s homepage at http://www.gov.nu.ca/Nunavut/. There’s lots of interesting information about Nunavut there.
